The role of electricity has widened after the economic liberalization policy initiated by the government of India in the 1990s. The competitiveness of India industry, among others, depends on both reducing the high prices of the products produced by it and increasing the reliability of electricity supply. Thus, to become competitive, we need reliable and adequate supply of electricity. Realising this, the government of India has initiated several reform measures to revamp the power sector. But even after one and a half decades this sector is not ranked high. In this context, the book provides a comprehensive account of India's power sector and its reforms.
