Summary: The decision to introduce Commercial paper by RBI is an example of the trend towards disinter mediation that has become a reality in all the developed financial markets of the world. The objectives of commercial paper are - widen the money market, bring effective secularization of portfolio, facilities of parking and discourage existing unhealthy practices in the inter corporate market. The findings of the study as issuers are good. As investors the major investor in the CP market are likely to the investment institutions like UTI, LIC etc. Role of corporate sector as investor in the CP market is likely to be marginal.
