The Indian apparel industry retains a special status in catering to the substantial domestic market while being part of global exports. However, logistics management lies as the critical factor in ensuring overall success. The apparel industry is integrally linked with logistics for moving raw materials, semi-finished goods, and finished garments at different stages of production, distribution, and retail. Managing logistic costs effectively is crucial for apparel manufacturers, distributors, and retailers to maintain competitiveness and meet customer demands in a fast-paced and globalized market. For the same, there is a fundamental need for stakeholders to have a clear understanding of the estimation of logistics cost as a fraction of the product landing cost. Further, economic upgrading in the apparel global value chain and opportunities for upgrading are shaped by the buyer-driven governance structure, which directly affect the distribution of logistical costs.
