This book is the third of the four-volume Festschrift – Modernization, Globalization and Social Transformation – in honour of one of the stalwarts of sociology in India, Professor Yogendra Singh.
In the first section of this volume, papers focusing on such aspects of polity and civil society as Indian democracy, dynamics of development, citizenship, Naxal movement, nativism, regionalism, nationalism, radical nationalism, freedom movement, civil resistance, Fiji Indian quest for power, socio-cultural transformation of Indians in the US, etc., have been written by most eminent sociologists.
Likewise, in the second section on development, such themes as sustainable development, Gandhi’s development philosophy, social development and new economic policy, equitable development paradigm, communication as a development resource, technological advancements and its impact on youth, civilizational transformation of indigenous people, state, market economy and rural degeneration, dynamics of economic reforms in revamping rural India, sociology of health and health inequalities as well as health care, suicides among cultivators, and biotech crops etc. have been discussed. Several of these themes have been examined in the context of globalization.
