The aim of this book is to bring together the various strands of the subject and give a comprehensive presentation of its history, fundamentals and applications. In part 1 the origins of object-oriented programming are traced and the basic concepts outlined. Part 2 covers programming languages based on objects, object-oriented databases, specification and design methods, the application of objects in distributed systems, and interface design based on objects. Part 3 consists of case studies in a variety of application areas, and part 4 looks ahead to new developments in object-oriented programming systems and their applications.
