For a long time the Nyaya logicians and the Buddhist logicians tried to give a parallel picture of their logical theory in respect of meaning, inference and analysis of the thing given in perception. Buddhist theory of Apoha may or may not be accepted but, as the author says, has to be taken seriously and this cannot be really done unless one takes into consideration the Hetvabhasas. The author has made a very serious study of this problem His analysis is sharp and the material that he uses has a depth, since he has made efforts first to understand the problem carefully and then to discuss it with learned Pandits of Navyanyaya.
