Trafficking of human beings, especially of women and children, is one of the fastest growing lucrative trades. Trafficking of women for commercial sexual exploitation is a matter of concern as it violates human rights and is a serious blot on humanity. The reasons for the increase in trafficking of women and children are multiple and complex, affecting rich and poor countries alike and India is no exception to this. The points of origin are often the more deprived and backward places, regions or countries, and the points of destination are often urban agglomerates within or across borders. The international and national agencies, governments and other stakeholders are equally conscious for prevention and combating such social problem, while serious efforts are being taken for rescue, rehabilitation of victims and their repatriation in family and society.
