A review of the extensive literature related to this topic shows that the results of research done till date is inconclusive in terms of determining the exact nature and extent of these gender-specific differences. However, a common thread that runs through such results is the definite effect of social processes during the upbringing of boys and girls. Strategies used to bridge the differences in negotiation outcomes must therefore incorporate the unique traits of both the sexes rather than tight-fitting them into a single straight-jacketed strategy.
