In 1996, exactly a decade ago, a bunch of like minded people at British Airways hit upon a scheme to help their airline become more cost efficient - they hired 30 Indians in Mumbai to process tickets and keep track of cargo via the Internet. The same year, anther group of individuals at General Electric's offices in Gurgaon put together a blue-print for a special pilot project - a remote back-office to handle the paper work for GE's credit card business in the US.
