Rapid technological advancements and digital adaptation at workplace have helped firms improve their decision-making ability and strategy formulation. However, usage of technology for employee monitoring and ensuring compliance can also have unintended negative consequences on employee morale and some valid privacy concerns. Hence through this paper, we will investigate the various tools and methods through which firms are keeping a tab on their employees, perceived benefits of the same and the ethical questions surrounding breach of employee privacy. We shall undertake a detailed literature review on the subject matter and undertake a primary survey to understand the employees’ perspectives on such practices. We would also try to undertake an interview with at least one HR professional to understand their perspective on the matter. Our goal through this paper will be to search for a balanced solution where a firm is able to optimally utilize all its resources while maintaining the privacy of its employees. Further, we will explore the existing regulatory framework on the issue and suggest possible guidelines to be followed by the firms to not infringe on anyone’s privacy.
