As a numismatist and collector Rhodes left behind his mark in his many publications (provided in this volume), mostly on the coins and currency systems of the eastern and north-eastern parts of the subcontinent. The contributors to the volume have written on various aspects of the field of Indian coinage, a theme that was so dear to Rhodes. The essays delve deep into coins in catalogs, medals, medallions, seals, particular coin types (dynastic and non-dynastic issues), commerce and monetization, and suchlike. The essays cover diverse areas and different periods of Indian history which experienced varieties of monetary issues. Rich in bibliography, maps, graphs, and images of coins, the volume generates new knowledge in the field concerned. Susmita Basu Majumdar, Professor, Department of Ancient Indian History and Culture, University of Calcutta, specializes in early Indian epigraphy and numismatics. Her research interests also include the history of medicine and surgery and the history of early Indian religion, especially Ajivikism and Saivism. S.K. Bose, an Ex-President of the Numismatic Society of India, is an independent researcher on Indian coins with deep academic interest. He has been constantly contributing to the field of numismatic studies by his publications, seven of them jointly with Nicholas G. Rhodes. He is at present the Managing Trustee of the Institute of Northeast India Studies. https://www.manoharbooks.com/BookDetails.asp?Id=1000065&isbn=9789388540063
