Each of their chapters includes software implementations of the algorithms and test drivers written in the programming language C, along with other tools and techniques as circumstances dictate. They assume readers have basic knowledge of elementary functional analysis and C, but provide background and tutorials in linear approximation, linear programming and the simplex algorithm, and solutions of linear equations. They proceed to fully explain the L1 approximation, including bounded variables and plane curves, the Chebyshev approximation, least squared approximations, and under-determines systems of linear equations. The illustrations and examples, particularly those on the CD-ROM, are excellent.
