Summary, etc Management education in the past has primarily emphasised the so-called theories, principles and learning techniques of the management. Studies of organisational behaviour have been similarly limited and constrained. This book has kept in view the manager's need to go beyond cognitive learning and learn theories-in-action. It is proved beyond doubt that to develop human skills, every manager and manager-to-be needs to understand the dynamics of human behaviour in organisational settings. This includes an understanding of the individual, his needs, perceptions, emotions, attitudes, values, habits and character. The first chapter describes the manager and his functions followed by a presentation of a number of psychological factors involved in determining managerial effectiveness (Chapter 2). The factors contributing to personal effectiveness are now dealt with in details followed by important areas dealing with the behaviour dynamics in work life. All these comprise the first module od regardings. The eight chapters in the second module deal with intragroup and intergroup processes, few of which relate to communications models, feedback, collaboration dynamics and leadership styles and patterns. The final module deals with mechanisms that can be utilised to create conducive work climates, solve problems and trigger organisational alternatives. The book now moves on to cover a wide range of processes of organisational life through 24 case studies on the influence of the outcome of human interactions in a variety of settings, and an enlisting of instruments prepared by the authors. The cases, which are in the form of short incidents or events, are bound to increase the perception and develop the analytical skill of the reader, while the instruments can help to determine his choice of behaviour since he would then be competent to foresee the exact outcome of his behaviour. The book can be used with confidence by both the workman and the manager. The readings, case studies and the instruments will be found to be valuable and comprehensive by the management institutions and the professional and business people. The method of presentation is simple, clear and straightforward.
