The National Sample Survey (NSS), set up by the Government of India in 1950 to collect socio-economic data employing scientific sampling methods, will start its sixtieth round from 1st January 2004. The 60th round (January-June 2004) of NSS will cover annual survey of consumer expenditure, employment-unemployment situation and morbidity and health care. In the current round a separate schedule will be canvassed for employment and unemployment. It will also cover the whole of the Indian Union except (i) Leh (Ladakh) and Kargil districts of Jammu & Kashmir, (ii) interior villages of Nagaland situated beyond five kilometres of the bus route and (iii) villages in Andaman and Nicobar Islands which remain inaccessible throughout the year.
